Tulach gets its flowers … with a big award win!

We were so proud of our team this week as Tulach, our community in Wigan, got some love! It picked up the ‘Lager Housing Scheme of the Year’ at the coveted Cowgill’s North West Housebuilder Awards, and we were pleased as punch.

The judges recognised the level of quality being delivered at the 268-home community, with highly energy-efficient homes, a wide variety of choice with 10 house-types being delivered and loads of new green spaces helping transform the former Pemberton Colliery site.

So many factors led us to this point – with conscious design choices made to create a standout neighbourhood. From the green, safe streets and energy efficient kit in each home; to the extensive landscaping we’ve incorporated to make it a place that respects and embraces nature.

With phase one of the community now well underway and the first residents calling it home, we’re starting to get a real glimpse of what the end community will look like, with tonnes of planting and greenery. Did you know, we go well above the industry standard when it comes to planting? At Tulach, we’re planting over 330 trees and shrubs, 18,000 ornamental shrubs, 2000 bulbs, and over 7,900 hedgerow plants!

But it’s not just the work that goes into building the development that helped us win. We’re committed to making a positive local impact and we’ve been super busy in and around the Tulach site – including de-camping to Wigan-based education charity Apple Cast to build a new wildflower garden and donate our Huddle as a new classroom … as well as loads more!

This latest award is the first big win for Tulach – our very first project in Wigan. But it’s the second year running that Northstone has been successful at the North West Housebuilder Awards, we swept the board in 2022 with three major gongs!

We’ll continue our commitment to delivering on our promises in Wigan, whether that’s ensuring every home we build meets our now trademark exceptional standard or contributing to essential local infrastructure (we’re about to get going on the section of the M58 link road we committed to building).

But we couldn’t have done it without our team, all of our site partners and, of course, all the lovely people who are choosing to make Tulach their home. This one’s for them!
