Year 8 Pupils Return to Keld as Northstone Project Takes Shape

Year 8 pupils return to Keld

Students from St John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School recently revisited our award-winning Keld development in Barrowford as part of the second year of our innovative 7UP programme – and the transformation was clear to see.

During their first visit last year, then-Year 7 pupils stood on the bare foundations of selected plots. Now in Year 8, they returned to find those same plots in various stages of construction – some nearing completion, others showing the development process in action.

Led by Keld Site Manager Richard Holt, the group took a guided tour of the site, gaining insight into the construction journey from groundworks to interior fit-out. The tour provided a behind-the-scenes look at different build stages and completed homes, helping students understand how a new community takes shape.

Our 7UP programme is designed to inspire young students by introducing them to the wide range of careers within construction and housebuilding. Through annual visits, pupils witness the evolution of a live development over time, making real-world connections to what they’re learning in the classroom.

Chrissie Bramhall, our Communities Manager, commented:
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see the students return and experience the progress firsthand. Their excitement and engagement reflect exactly what the 7UP programme is about – making construction real, accessible, and inspiring for the next generation.”

During the visit, students also learned more about our commitment to thoughtful, community-focused design – from pedestrian-first infrastructure and flexible ground floor layouts to generous gardens that support modern living.

Simon Atkin, Assistant Headteacher at St John Fisher and Thomas More RC High School, added:“Our pupils had another brilliant experience at Keld. Seeing their plots come to life makes a lasting impression, and programmes like 7UP are invaluable in helping them explore future career opportunities. We’re incredibly grateful to Northstone for their continued support.”

Once complete, Keld will feature 239 homes across ten house types, ranging from two- to four-bedroom properties. As we continue to build communities across the North West, initiatives like 7UP reflect our long-term commitment to education, community partnerships, and nurturing the next generation of housebuilding talent.
