A Busy Couple of Months: Volunteering and Partnering with Schools, Colleges, and Charities

The past few months have been incredibly busy yet immensely rewarding as we've dedicated our time and resources to various volunteering activities and collaborations with local schools, colleges, and charities. Here's a quick roundup of what we've been up to...

Colne Open Door Breakfast Club

We proudly launched our very own breakfast club, marking the first free breakfast club for children in Pendle! Partnering with the incredible community charity, Colne Open Door Centre, the deserving winners of our Keld Community Fund, this initiative provides children with a selection of free breakfast choices, ensuring they start their day with a nutritious meal. Additionally, an onsite crisis support worker is available to assist parents, grandparents, or carers with any issues they might have. Our dedicated Northstone team was on hand to help with breakfasts and various tasks. What a fantastic way to kick off our week, spending time with such a worthy charity. Huge thanks to Nick and the entire team for making this possible! 😊

A Site Tour of Keld for Shuttleworth College Students

We took a group of Year 10 students from Shuttleworth College on a tour of our Keld development. We had the pleasure of spending time with our Site Manager, Richard Holt, who gave us an overview of the development, discussed various roles within the industry and pathways, and led a site tour. We were also fortunate to have a trade talk with Stuart Crilly, who discussed all the stages of bricklaying.

A Snagging Masterclass for Atherton High School Students

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from one of our partner schools, Atherton High School, to our Airie site, in Bolton, for their first visit. For their work experience, the students were assigned various snagging tasks and performed brilliantly. Their enthusiasm and politeness were a reflection of their school. Big thanks to our site team for giving their time and sharing their valuable knowledge. It's inspiring to see the next generation of construction professionals in action.

Workshops and a Competition for St Peter’s Catholic High School

The team had a great time yesterday helping students with the 'Design a Uni' competition at St Peter's Catholic High School in Wigan. We talked about every area involved in a development, from planning, project management, and estimating, to sales and marketing.

Helping Out at Applecast in Wigan

Our team volunteered with our partner charity, Applecast in Wigan. We rolled up our sleeves and got involved with a variety of activities - painting and cleaning the enclosures for the chickens and guinea pigs, laying down bark, and weeding the garden. It was great to spend the day understanding further the great work that Applecast does, especially in the sunshine ☀️. Shout out to our amazing team, thank you all for your hard work and enthusiasm! Let’s keep making a difference together.

Launching the ‘Construction Pathways’ Programme

Last month, we launched our Construction Pathways Programme in partnership with Lancaster & Morecambe College. This program will allow construction students from the college to visit our Breacla site multiple times over the next 12 months, giving them a firsthand look at the development process. A huge thanks to Chris Okey and James Forrington for dedicating their time and sharing invaluable knowledge with the students. Your contributions are crucial to making this initiative a success.

Looking Ahead

We are incredibly proud of the positive impact our initiatives have had on the community, and we look forward to continuing our efforts in the coming months. A huge thank you to everyone involved – your support and dedication are what make these projects possible. Let’s keep working together to make a difference!
