Northstone Apprentice Shortlisted for Wigan Borough Business Award

Northstone is celebrating the success of one of its rising stars after bricklaying apprentice Ashton Walsh was shortlisted in the Apprentice of the Year category at the Wigan Borough Business Awards.

At just 18 years old, Ashton has already made a significant impact since joining Northstone, impressing colleagues across the business with his craftsmanship, dedication and outstanding work ethic. Following his shortlisting, he will now progress to the final stage of judging, where he will meet a panel of judges competing for the prestigious title.

Ashton joined Northstone after completing a successful work placement delivered in partnership with J Walkers Brickwork, Mark Hopwood and Wigan and Leigh College. He now works alongside experienced bricklayers Damien Ellison and Danny Cusick, helping to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient homes at Northstone's Tulach and Abri developments in Wigan.

From day one, Ashton has demonstrated a genuine passion for his trade and a commitment to achieving the highest standards. His attention to detail, particularly when working on complex brickwork features, has earned praise from colleagues and site managers alike.

Alex Morris, Site Manager at Northstone, said:

"Ashton is an exceptional young talent and this recognition is thoroughly deserved. From the moment he joined us, he has shown an outstanding attitude, an eagerness to learn and a genuine passion for producing the highest quality work.

"He's someone who constantly looks for ways to improve, whether that's refining his own skills, finding practical solutions on site or supporting those around him.

"His determination, resilience and professionalism at just 18 really sets him apart and he has become a highly respected member of the team in a very short space of time."

The Wigan Borough Business Awards celebrate businesses and individuals making a significant contribution to the borough's economy and local communities. The Apprentice of the Year award recognises young people who have demonstrated exceptional potential, commitment and achievement in their chosen career.

Everyone at Northstone is incredibly proud of Ashton's achievement and wishes him the very best of luck in the final stage of judging. His success reflects not only his own hard work and dedication, but also the value of creating opportunities for young people to develop rewarding careers within the construction industry.
